Cygwin is an application that brings on Windows operating system the look and feel for working like on a Linux based computer.
It includes a X-Server, allows remote connections to Linux servers or Windows computers, create shell commands, make the administration work easier with this GUI.
It provides some Linux functionality, but basically is designed to work on Linux from Windows in an easier way.
