Apache OpenOffice is a free suite of programs that contains different applications to make different types of documents. Is similar with Microsoft Office.
Some available applications are Writer which allows to create and edit text spreadsheets (is an alternative to Microsoft Word), Calc that can be used to work with numbers and formulas, create and generate numeric reports (is a competitor of Microsoft Excel), Draw and Impress can create presentations that may include multimedia files, images, charts etc. (similar with PowerPoint), Base to work with databases and Math to display math formulas.
All applications included in this suite are compatible with Microsoft Office documents and can open, import or export from/to these types of files.
