Maxima is a program developed since 1982 and allows to make math calculations, use formulas, work with expressions (different types of equations, vectors, matrices etc.).
Is available for all major platforms, for Mac needs to be compiled (does not have a standalone installer).
Is written in Common Lisp programming language. You can make numerical and symbolic calculations.
