Clonezilla is a tool to clone or make backup or a hard drive. Users can make exact copies (clones) or save as backup file a hard drive and restore it later in case computer is crashing or duplicate a hard drive to another one from another computer.
Is developed by a company from Taiwan and is present in 2 editions: Clonezilla live and Clonezilla SE (server edition). Clonezilla live is designed to be used on a single computer and Clonezilla SE (server edition) is designed to work with up to forty computers (for system administrators).
Interface is available in most popular languages and this tool presents a shell command interface where users navigate with keyboard arrow keys or an optional command line where users a free to enter hand typed commands..
Two main functions can be executed with this program:
- clone or restore entire disk or a partition using an image
- clone or restore disk to disk or partition to partition
All popular file systems for hard disks are supported: FAT16 and 32, NTFS, HSF+, USF and more.
Useful to create copies or backups of a hard drive and restore them easily if computer is affected by a virus or damaged. It supports to be started in boot mode (boot from DVD/CD, USB ..) and it takes a few minutes to reinstall a copy. Is able to reinstall one image to multiple hard drive destinations from the same computer, in the same time.
Does not support RAID technology and incremental backup.
