Fink is live since 2001 and is a program that allows to compile or install Unix based software packages on a Mac OS computer, in a simplified way.
This program is written in Perl and you can use command line to quickly install different software repositories on a Mac. It is similar with MacPorts and with Homebrew (much newer).
You can install different open source software products that are not included in Mac distributions.
